design fest gent
Upcycling gone wild. During Design Fest Gent, different design shops form a trail through Ghent called The Wilde Route. Each shop made one or more deadstock available to an organisation or designer. The designer will use these deadstocks to create a new and unique design that can be sold.
Axelle designed a new object for Surplus Interieur. A discarded seat shell from a butterfly chair by Arne Jacobsen is given a new function. The chair becomes a floor lamp. The design refers to another design by Arne Jacobsen. In the 1930s, Jacobsen designed Bellevue beach complex near Copenhagen. He designed everything from bath stalls and kiosks to tickets and staff uniforms. The characteristic stripes of the lifeguard towers can be found on the floor lamp.
The Wilde Route took place from 22/04 through 01/05/2022.
